Who We Are

CMI is a mid-sized congregation, known for its warm, welcoming, inclusive community, inspirational programs for adults & children, and unwavering commitment to social justice. We offer many opportunities for study, spiritual growth and community involvement. From toddlers to seniors, there is something for everyone. Come see why our congregational family is so special.

Our Mission

With both Jewish and non-Jewish communities, we act to advance Tikkun Olam: the repair and healing of the world. We strive to ensure the continuity and commitment of our Jewish culture and heritage—to sustain a belief in God and the Torah—through worship, study, inspiration, support and congregation.

Our Congregation

The CMI family is comprised of a truly diverse array of individuals. Some were raised Jewish, others have chosen Judaism later in life or are in an interfaith relationship. Some learned Jewish practices and Hebrew as youngsters, whether Reconstructionist, Reform, Conservative, Orthodox or secular, and others have not. Some are from families with an Eastern European background, while others come for South America, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, or the Orient. Some are singles, some are single parents, some are married and some have partners.

No matter your individual background, if you share our mission, we invite you to become part of our Jewish community.

Serving the greater New Haven area since 1840, Congregation Mishkan Israel is a progressive Reform synagogue known for its demographically diverse, socially active congregation. Located in Hamden, we are a group of individuals who enjoy connecting with people who have an interest in spiritual growth, community involvement and celebration. We welcome you and hope that you will join us!
