US Assistant Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, Ellie Cohanim discusses anti-Semitism as a global and local phenomenon amidst COVID-19. This special event will be moderated by Judy Alperin, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.

As Assistant Special Envoy, she helps inform and carry out policies and related initiatives that aim to counter global anti-Semitism at the US Department of State. 

Cohanim arrived as a child refugee to the US, after she and her family fled the escalating anti-Semitism in Iran during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Fluent in Hebrew and Farsi, she received her B.A. in Political Science, Cum Laude, from Columbia University and her M.A. in Jewish Professional Leadership from NYU.  

Prior to her appointment, Assistant Special Envoy Cohanim served as Senior Vice President at the Jewish Broadcasting Service (JBS). she also served on the boards of AJC (New York region), New York Jewish Community Relations Council, and the Ester Chapter of Hadassah, which recognized her as a “Young Leader” in 2010.
