In June 1954, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman Lewis Strauss revoked the security clearance of Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer who had been the scientific leader of the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bombs.
Rabbi Jack Shlachter, aka "The Physics Rabbi", will explore how their respective Jewish identities may have contributed to the revocation.
Jack Shlachter is both a physicist and an ordained rabbi who worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory and other organizations for over thirty years. He led The Jewish Center of The Moriches, NY, during his years at Brookhaven and is currently the rabbi of HaMakom in Santa Fe, NM and of the Los Alamos Jewish Center.
