Arthur Horwitz was raised in New Haven by his parents, Sally and Morton Horwitz. The fact that his mother was a Holocaust Survivor while his father was New Haven born and bred set Arthur apart from his friends and neighbors. Arthur’s life was shaped by the fact that he was named for his sister’s baby brother who perished during the Holocaust. This put tremendous pressure on Arthur. When he succeeded at something, his mother attributed that to his namesake. However, when he misbehaved, that was all on Arthur. He felt that he was living two lives, hence the title of his book, Dual Identities.
