The Balkan peninsula has produced a rich tradition of folk music and dance. The dances are spectacularly communal affairs, where long lines of people of all ages and genders dance together in a circle, following the same set of dance steps. The music is infectious, fun, and different. The Harris Brothers Balkan Band is a local torch-bearer of that tradition, with a thumping drum beat, a brassy ensemble, and driving accordion.

Laine Harris, one of the founding brothers of the band, and Helen Marx, the band's drummer, teach the lessons every time we have a Balkan dance. These lessons build on each other, and are designed to make a new dancer feel welcome. Both Helen and Laine are experienced dance teachers, and make Balkan a joy. Lessons are no extra charge!

Food is potluck, and beverages are BYOB. Please, feel free to bring tons to share and have fun and loosen up. It's a party!
