Join us for a presentation of Professor Dean’s new book Moral Witness, “the first cultural history of the ‘witness to genocide’ in the West.” Professor Dean shows how “the witness became a protagonist of twentieth-century moral culture by tracing the emergence of this figure in courtroom battles from the 1920s to the 1960s―covering the Armenian genocide, the Ukrainian pogroms, the Soviet Gulag, and the trial of Adolf Eichmann.” A distinguished panel of academics will discuss the impact of Dean’s work including:

Cathy Caruth, Frank H. T. Rhodes Professor of Humane Letters, Cornell University
Thomas Keenan, Associate Professor of Comparative Literature, Literature, Human Rights Program, Bard College
Hannah Pollin-Galay, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Literature, Tel Aviv University
Michael Roth, President, Wesleyan University
Adam Stern, Lecturer and Postdoctoral Associate, Yale University
