The Elm City Kallah will be the weekend of April 24-25-26. The speaker is Rabbi Shai Held, President, Dean and Chair in Jewish Thought at the Hadar Institute, which he founded in 2006 with Rabbis Elie Kaunfer and Ethan Tucker. He will speak at 1 pm, after (9:15 am) services and Kiddush lunch (12 noon).
His topic will be "Loving the Ger (Stranger-Sojourner): The Torah's Moral Revolution Then and Now." In addition to loving God and our neighbor, the Torah commands us to love the stranger (ger). We will explore why God loves strangers, how society should respond to our most vulnerable members, and how our memories of suffering and vulnerability shape our relationship to others.
