Samuel Ha-Nagid, also known as Samuel Ibn Nagrella (993-1056), was both a statesman and a scholar, a warrior and a poet, a family man and a man of the world. He was remarkable not only for his political and military achievements but also for the poetry that commemorated those achievements. Sharon Naveh, who has lectured on medieval Hebrew poetry in multiple and varied venues, will be presenting the lecture “Skulls and Scimitars: The Surprising War Poetry of Samuel Ha-Nagid” as part of the Westville University Lecture Series, on October 21st at 7:00 p.m.
