From the Desk of Judy Diamondstein - Summer Update

While some may plant their umbrella on the beach and put their feet up to rest during the summer months, here at Federation we have been hard at work building integrations within our campus. For the first time in our history, our three boards of directors – Federation, Foundation, and JCC – will officially meet as one to discuss the vision for our integrated family of agencies under the Jewish Federation banner. Changes you will see in the weeks ahead include the rollout of new logos for JCC and Foundation that reflect our brands’ familial relationship and unity. You will also see our email addresses change to reflect that we all live and work @JewishNewHaven.org.

Internally, we have re-imagined the management of Federation/JCC revenue streams. Our new integrated development team will be directed by Amy Holtz, a new member on our professional staff. Amy relocated to Connecticut from Allentown, Pennsylvania last year. Her professional experience includes hospital administration, synagogue management, JCC camp and most recently, Amy served as the interim executive director of the JCC of Allentown.  As a lay leader, Amy has served as president of her sisterhood and synagogue, and as membership chair of the JCC. Amy also co-chaired a capital campaign to build a new synagogue.

It is my honor to share the news that Scott Cohen will assume the role of JCC Executive Director effective September 1, 2016. This appointment received the enthusiastic endorsement of the JCC Board of Directors. Scott’s appointment will follow Shelley Gans' expected departure on August 31.

Scott’s decades long record of service on behalf of our Jewish community has been exemplary. Scott has served the JCC in many capacities throughout his career supervising program, facility and operational areas. Most recently, Scott’s role as the Chief Operating Officer of the Jewish Federation expanded his expertise to include the finance department and he staffed the planning and allocations process and budget process. Scott is committed to building and strengthening the JCC as part of the integrated family of agencies under the Jewish Federation.

Debra Cole, Finance Director, will be promoted to the role of Chief Financial Officer. Debra’s commendable work in the finance department has strengthened efforts while at the same time creating a leaner and more effective department.

Our marketing department will continue serving our family of agencies, now under the new leadership of Nurit Kohl, Director of Marketing and Communications. Nurit relocated to the area with her husband and three small children after serving in a similar capacity in Akron, Ohio. Keep an eye out for a fresh take on our publications and communications including a redesigned format for Shalom New Haven, the only Jewish newspaper exclusively devoted to the Jewish community in Greater New Haven.
