Interfaith Refugee Resettlement Group Aids Families

The Shoreline Interfaith Refugee Resettlement group (SHIRR ) recently helped settle an Afghan refugee family of three who arrived in January.

SHIRR is a partnership of Temple Beth Tikvah of Madison and the First Congregational Church of Guilford which work as co-sponsors with Integrated Refugee & Immigration Services (IRIS).

The Afghan family’s primary language is Pashto, but the parents do know some English. SHIRR helped lease an apartment for the family in Branford, close to another Afghan family that is currently being sponsored by the Branford First Congregational Church.

To help SHIRR or volunteer, contact Liz Shore at shorestern@comcast.net or Robin Baslaw at rbaslaw@comcast. net.
