Last year, thanks to a generous donor in our community, Jewish Scholarship Initiative distributed $87,000 in local scholarships. These needs-based scholarships are for Jewish households residing in Greater New Haven. Qualifying schools include: Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy, Ezra Academy and Bais David Yeshiva of New Haven. Qualifying Jewish camps include Camp Laurelwood, JCC Day Camps, Camp Gan Israel and local synagogue camps. Eligible Jewish preschools include: local synagogue preschools, JCC Yeladim Early Learning Center, and Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy. Local synagogue and religious schools also qualify. The deadline for day schools and Jewish preschools is July 14, and the synagogue school deadline is Oct. 20. All applications are confidential and anonymously reviewed by a scholarship committee. Visit for the application, more information, and to see the catchment area. The Jewish Foundation also offers college and Israel scholarships.
