Shalom Group, a JFS Program, Enjoyed Holiday Craft at JCC MakerSpace

Serving developmentally disabled Jewish adults, the Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven’s Shalom Group offers Jewish educational, holiday, cultural and other social events for people to learn more about Judaism, feel connected to it and develop social relationships with their peers. Shalom Group also helps participants gain further independence and life skills.

Rachel Scolnic Dobin, MSW, leads the Shalom Group. She schedules and coordinates events that are meaningful to participants in the community.

Shalom Group events are not just held at JFS. Earlier this month, the group had a planned activity at the JCC MakerSpace, where they painted and decorated apple frames.

The JCC MakerSpace is an interdisciplinary space that merges Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) to spark learning and foster self-expression for all ages. The space features both "neat" and "messy" areas to accommodate activities ranging from woodworking, ceramics, painting, 3D printing and more. The MakerSpace is open to all in our community who wishes to explore their creativity in a relaxed setting.
