Temple Beth Tikvah Welcomes Cabaret-Singing Rabbi for Weekend

Temple Beth Tikvah welcomes Scholar-In-Residence Rabbi Deborah Zecher, for the weekend of Nov. 17-18. On Friday night, Nov. 17, during the 7:15 p.m. Shabbat service, she will present “Sermon in a Song,” — a lively, interactive musical program.

On Nov. 18, the Saturday event begins with dinner and Havdalah at 6 p.m., followed by Rabbi Zecher’s presentation “Broadway Bible” — a program that combines beloved show tunes with familiar Biblical and midrashic tales. It’s torah study from a completely different perspective.

Rabbi Zecher has been singing all of her life, primarily in the synagogue. She is the Rabbi Emerita of Hevreh of Southern Berkshire, after having served as rabbi and leader of music from 1992-2014.

Zecher is a graduate of Brandeis University and was ordained by the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in NYC.

Rabbi Zecher performs cabaret all over the country and is a member of the Adult Cabaret Workshop at the Berkshire Music School. She has performed with Cabaret-to-Go, at Don’t Tell Mama’s in New York City and at the National Cabaret Conference at Yale. All weekend events take place at Temple Beth Tikvah, 196 Durham Road in Madison. All programs are open to the community and free with TBT membership. On Saturday evening, a contribution is requested from non-members.

To register / RSVP call the TBT office at (203)245-7028 or go to www.tbtshoreline.org. office@tbtshoreline.org.
